Spartan Families,
CMS will have a half day on Friday, June 21 due to the heat advisory. 8th grade students will still go bowling in the morning and return to school for lunch prior to the building dismissing at 11:30AM.
Should you have any questions, please reach out to me.
Stay cool,
Brandon Foley
CMS Principal

Good afternoon Elmira Heights parents and community,
Due to the heat advisory in effect now through Friday June 21st, Elmira Heights School District's elementary and middle schools will operate on half-day schedules. Friday classes at the middle and elementary will follow our regular half-day schedule. More specific information will be posted soon.
Regents exams will proceed as scheduled for high school students in air-conditioned spaces at the high school.
We recognize that this decision will bring relief to many, though it may also pose challenges for families. The Cohen complex building becomes uncomfortably warm when temperatures rise into the mid to upper 80s. The heat index warning continues to be calling for temperatures to exceed 100 degrees, necessitates this adjustment.
Further details regarding dismissal schedules will be communicated soon by individual school buildings. They will operate on the same schedule as we are today.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time.

CMS Spartans,
A reminder that the CMS Spring Concert is still taking place tonight at 7:00PM in our auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 and musicians should report directly to the cafeteria.
If you are unable to attend the concert, you can still watch the show by clicking on the livestream link found on the front page of our school website in the top-center blue tab.
See you tonight!
Brandon Foley
CMS Principal

Dear Elmira Heights Parents and Community Members,
I am thrilled to announce that May 28th has been designated as a giveback day, resulting in a full day off for students. This decision stems from our not needing to utilize an emergency day in recent weeks. We hope this additional day off provides an opportunity for rest and rejuvenation for our students.
As we enjoy the beautiful spring weather and approach the final stretch of the school year, it's a perfect time to reflect on the journey we've embarked on together. Despite the challenges, our community has remained steadfast in its commitment to our students' education and well-being.
In recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to express my deepest gratitude to our dedicated educators for their unwavering dedication to our students' growth and success. Their passion and commitment truly make a difference in the lives of our children every day. Helping them Reach New Heights!
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Let's make the most of the remaining weeks of the school year as we continue to support our students' journey.
Warm regards,
Michael F. Gill

Dear Families and Community Members,
I hope this message finds you well as we approach the upcoming spring break. Before we head into this break, I have some exciting news to share with you - and no, it's not about Taylor Swift's new albums!
In collaboration with our construction managers, our unions, and our administration we would like to announce the plan for an additional give back day for students. These days provide much-needed opportunities for rest and rejuvenation, while also considering the potential need to use these days for actual emergency closures due to construction on the Cohen campus.
Here is the breakdown of the additional give back days for students:
- May 24, 2024: CONFIRMED additional “No School” day. (note in a previous email/post this date was incorrect - the 24th is correct)
- May 28, 2024: Planned additional “No School” day - to be confirmed by May 6, 2024.
I truly appreciate your understanding of the complexity of massive construction projects that may necessitate the use of these days for actual emergency closures. If we were to call an emergency day, it would be for the entire district PK-12. This plan allows us to maintain emergency days if needed while providing you with information about planned days off.
As we prepare to enjoy our spring break, let's remember that your support and understanding are greatly valued. Enjoy spring break and we look forward to having our students return ready to continue reaching new heights as we finish off the year strong!
Warm regards,
Michael F. Gill
Superintendent of Schools
Elmira Heights CSD

ATTENTION: Calendar Change - No School planned for May 24, 2024
The Elmira Heights Central School District is pleased to announce a schedule adjustment for the current school year. In recognition of the diligent efforts of our students, staff, and the favorable weather conditions this past winter, we are excited to implement a change to the school calendar.
As a result of using only one snow day, or emergency day, during the winter season, the district will be incorporating a "giveback day" into the schedule. This additional day off will extend the Memorial Day weekend break for students and staff.
The give back day will take place on Friday, May 24, 2024 allowing students and staff to enjoy an extended break and commemorate Memorial Day with their families and loved ones. This adjustment reflects our commitment to providing a well-deserved respite and acknowledges the dedication of our school community throughout the academic year.
We believe that this schedule adjustment will enhance the overall well-being and morale of our students and staff while maintaining the integrity of the academic calendar. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all members of the Elmira Heights community as we implement this change.
For further information or inquiries, please contact your child’s specific buildings.
REMINDER: Spring Break is NEXT WEEK: April 22-26 there will be no school!

Good morning,
We want to inform you about a security concern that came to our attention this morning, and we take the safety of our students and staff very seriously. Please be assured that we worked closely with local authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly. As a precautionary measure, we implemented additional security measures on campus with a hold in place.
After thorough investigation, it was determined that the concern was not substantiated and there was NO threat to our school community.
We understand the concern this may cause, and we want to reassure you that we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment. We encourage you to talk with your children about the importance of reporting any suspicious activity and remind them of our school’s emergency procedures.
We have addressed the above concern and assure you that it has been taken care of. We want to thank the Elmira Heights Police Department, the Chemung County Sheriff's Department, our staff, and our students for handling this morning’s situation so professionally.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
